WORDS: Graham Robinson
The list of things they couldn’t do before is now being dragged out from under the slimy stone where they kept it and ready to be executed.
Leaving Europe, giving away the NHS, scrapping the Human Rights Act, changing constituency boundaries to give themselves more seats, dismembering the welfare system, reducing education to a sausage machine designed to produce obedient drones, splurging what money we have on ludicrous ideas of Imperial grandeur like Trident and aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines so that Cameron and his putrid successors can continue to posture about on the world stage ’punching above our weight’ and even bringing back fucking fox hunting for fucks sake. All this is now coming down the pipe.
And what of the opposition to all this, the so-called Labour Party?
Timid, with no conviction, no philosophy except a will to power by a bunch of no-marks who adopted the left wing side in their school debating society, they stumble along, reacting to each right-wing assault by trimming their so-called policies to suit whoever is shouting loudest in the Westminster bubble they exist in - (usually Rupert Fucking Murdoch or Jonathan Fucking Harmsworth, 4th Fucking Viscount Rothermere or the Loathsome Fucking Barclay Brothers)
Any power that might have been wielded by ordinary people is ruthlessly culled so that all decisions are made by an elite totally divorced from how life is lived by the majority. They don’t want any angry fucking punters coming in and shitting on their nice carpet.
The result is a set of policies that are more or less indistinguishable from Margaret Fucking Thatcher’s, dressed up with a nice bit of bilge about the working man, and hard working fucking families.
Political culture has been moving relentlessly to the right for decades. In education Tories like Baker and Gove move it right, then when Labour get in they reverse nothing. If they had got in this time there would still be Public Schools, (where they send their kids) Academies (which they started) a prescriptive national curriculum (extended by them), the demonisation of teachers (which labour reinforced) a target driven culture (which Labour introduced) and millions squandered on pointless 'initiatives" and 'strategies' and 'directives' from the centre. Nothing can change because the membership have almost no levers to pull to shape policy and instead it's decided upon by a bunch of metropolitan wankers who have no more concept of real life than the Bullingdon Boys.
Labour is a busted flush and an impediment to any genuine left wing progress. And it's about to get worse.
The LibDems were wiped out because they promised Left then voted Right. Labour is heading the same way.
Already the drumbeat is for Labour to ‘move to the centre’ in order to regain power. Meanwhile the Tories push the centre towards UKIP land. Labour is sinking but they still think it’s just about picking a good leader. A leader picked from the present pack of fuckwits will do nothing. Fucking nothing.
I got involved with Green politics because I saw a party whose policies are decided by the membership and consequently have policies that make sense to me. Not all of them, but most. I’ve tried my best to help a good man get elected where I live. Along with a bunch of like-minded people we went from a standing start 6 months ago to getting nearly 6% of the vote. We had a tiny budget and no friendly media to rely on. People are ready for change, fucked off by the present system and five more fucking years of fucking Cameron will only increase the fucked offness. Scotland proves that cataclysmic change is possible. It’s possible for us too. We have five years to make it happen. Go Green. Fuck Labour.
